1. Morpholithodynamic researches

These researches are aimed at assessing lithodynamic processes in the shore area.

Field lithodynamic researches include the following types of work:

Reconnaissance survey of the shore and beach zone, photography and video recording of the shore in the research area (including underwater shooting)

Setting a network of temporary benchmarks, referencing benchmarks

Location of the shore terrace shoulder against the benchmarks

Determining the beach width and profile according to cross-sections against the benchmarks

Determining the offshore profile according to cross-sections against the benchmarks

Water sampling to measure the concentration of suspended mineral substances in the seabed layer

Measuring thickness of the moving drifted bed

Sampling bottom sediments on the beach and offshore to define the grain size distribution

2. Environmental and fishery researches

These researches are aimed to provide necessary and sufficient data for environmental substantiation of the planned geological surveys in license areas in accordance with subsoil use conditions.

Environmental Company of Sakhalin undertakes environmental and fishery researches in sea waters, offshore and shore areas in cooperation with fishery research institutes.

The project geography extends to the north-east of Sakhalin, offshore Magadan and Kamchatka, and the Chukchi Sea.

3. Engineering protection of slopes and transitions of the rivers by pipelines

One of the key questions at performance of civil work on the sites subject to active development of exogenic processes is engineering protection of territory.

The Environmental Company of Sakhalin has successful experience of working out of projects of the engineering protection successfully realised in practice.

From 2010 to 2016 ECS experts developed more than ten projects of engineering protection of slopes and transitions of the rivers by lines main both trade petro- and gas pipelines in the conditions of Northern Sakhalin.

The complex of works carried out by the Company includes following directions:

1. Natural supervision on sites of development of negative processes
2. Detailed geodetic shooting of sites (on transitions of the rivers - detailed chanel shooting)
3. Actually designing of elements of engineering protection
4. Support of building and the author's control over Project realisation

The basic emphasis at a choice of elements of engineering protection in the realised projects is made on use of natural materials (stone sketches, gabion walls, Reno mattresses, biofloor-mats, etc.) that allows to minimise influence on environment and to "enter" the offered elements of engineering protection in an existing natural situation.

Posconstruction monitoring of the realised Projects of engineering protection has shown high reliability of the offered decisions and full stabilisation of a situation on sites during 2 - 3 years upon termination of works.

The Ecological Company of Sakhalin offers services in designing of systems of engineering protection of territories and linear objects from following processes:

• Water and wind erosion
• Landslips formation
• Chanel erosion
• Bogging / flooding

4. Hydro-meteorological helicopters support at drilling platforms

Since the 1990s, Environmental Company of Sakhalin has been offering hydrometeorological support services for helicopter flights as part of offshore projects.

In the 2000s, the Company provided operators of exploration drilling projects offshore Sakhalin with necessary routine information.

Since 2013, Environmental Company of Sakhalin has been providing hydrometeorological support services for helicopters at the drilling platforms of Sakhalin Energy Investment Company under Sakhalin-2 Project.

The Company performs the following tasks:

Regular hydrometeorological observations at offshore platforms to assure regular helicopter flights

Regular ice observations at offshore platforms to support the related marine logistics and subsea operations throughout the ice season

Data preparation for delivery to the Global Telecommunication System (GTS) in accordance with the requirements of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO)

Timely notification of aviation contractors and customers of ongoing data deviations / malfunctions of automatic weather stations installed at the platforms, regular maintenance of the stations and assistance in urgent replacement of meteorological sensors in case of failure based on applicable specifications

Support of remote (Internet based) and local maintenance / urgent repair of automatic weather stations by the engineer of the weather station manufacturer

Assistance in processing oceanographic data and their distribution in accordance with the regulatory requirements of the Russian Federation

5. Promising areas of environmental researches

5.1. Monitoring ice movements and surface currents

Since 2008, Environmental Company of Sakhalin has been using buoys with Argos terminals for monitoring ice movements and surface currents.

5.2. Hydro-geological surveys

To acquire real time information on the ground water level in hard-to-reach areas, Environmental Company of Sakhalin has introduced the environmental monitoring and operations control system to measure fluid level in observation wells.

From 2011 to 2012, the Russia's first continuous series of well level measurements was registered at an industrial facility and included thousands of objective instrumental measurements.
